Juice WRLD – Wishing Well | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“Wishing Well” is the fourteenth track on Juice WRLD’s first posthumous album ‘Legends Never Die.’ The song explores topics of depression, and how he wished for a well that grants peace of mind!

‘Legends Never Die’ is Juice WRLD’s third studio album and was rumored to be titled ‘Outsiders.’ However, after Juice WRLD’s death in December 2019, the album title changed into its current title in retrospect of the artist’s legacy. Two singles released ahead of the album release, namely; “Righteous” and “Tell Me U Luv Me.” Two other promotional singles released days before the album release, namely; “Life’s A Mess” featuring Halsey and “Come & Go” featuring Marshmello. A note released along with the album mentions “We feel that this collection of 15 songs best represents the music Juice was in the process of creating… Juice dedicated his music to his fans and, now more than ever, we hope this album brings some reprieve to everyone during these unsettling times.”

On “Wishing Well,” we find Juice WRLD exploring topics of depression, his drug abuse to escape depression and how he hopes and wishes for things to be different.

In the chorus of the song, Juice WRLD perfectly sums up the issues that he carries in his mind: an anvil on his shoulders. The saddest part is that he is aware that drugs he consumes to rid him of his pain is actually killing him slowly. “Killing Me Softly” is a song by the group Fugees, in which Lauryn Hill was one of the lead vocalists on this track.

Summing up all the tracks on ‘Legends Never Die,’ it is a common theme that Juice got frequent visits from enemies such as anxiety, depression, stress, and pain. That is not an easy life by any means. And his lack of sense of direction out of this pit was even more dangerous for his survival.

Another tragic realization of this song is how Juice actually felt going through all these issues. Being unable to breathe is a very difficult task which results in unconsciousness and eventual death. But Juice says his feelings were similar to being unable to exhale. It is a very strange feeling altogether and our minds cannot even comprehend how to proceed in such a situation. We can fight our way out of something that restricts inhaling. But can we fight our way through something that restricts exhaling??!!
