Eminem “Trouble” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
The only verse in the song goes into excruciating details about different communities that Slim Shady has no care for. Unfortunately enough, these are the communities that most would consider deserving of sympathy and special care. However, Slim Shady hasn’t the slightest inclination to side with these people. He is nothing more than trouble, in today’s climate.
Another isolated community Slim Shady goes after is the Gen-Z kids. Generation Z is a term used to reference people born from the late 1990s to 2010. This group of people is known for their sensitive approach to life as well as for pioneering the ‘cancel culture.’ With the rise of Internet power where people can obliterate a person online, Gen-Z has weaponized this to make the world a more inclusive space. However, this also meant that there is a massive disparity between freedom of speech from two decades ago to now.
Slim Shady was born out of controversy. He mastered it and used it to his advantage. He spoke out his mind even when it was gutter filthy. Not everyone loved him back then and things have not improved since in this regard.
At the end of the song, Slim Shady confronts Gen-Z challenging them to try and cancel him. However, he also admits that they need each other. Despite the massive fan base Slim Shady has accumulated over the decades, a majority of commercial success comes from the Gen-Z population. As much of an acclaimed poet Eminem is, even he cannot survive without streams and sales.
