Akon – Low Key (Lyrics Review and Song Meaning)

The Senegalese rapper, Akon, has been out of the music scene for far too long. But he is not about to crawl back into music. He is on a sprint catching up with the time lost. Akon announced four studio albums for 2019; ‘El Negreeto,’ ‘Akonda,’ Konnect’ and ‘The Konnection,’ out of which the former two albums are already released.

Akon dropped a new music video for “Low Key” single from his 2019 album ‘Akonda.’ The 10-track album finds the rapper connecting with his African roots. The album title and the final song “Wakonda” are all in resemblance of the fictional kingdom of ‘Wakanda’ appearing in Marvel Comic Universe.

“Low Key” sings about Akon’s infatuation with a girl who is perfect in all the right ways. It also surprises Akon how she is still single and lonely. Maybe she was in a relationship before and got burned out! Maybe being locked down is not her type. Whichever the case is, Akon is not standing idly by.

The music video for the song features a gorgeous African woman being adored by all the men passing by her. Akon appears throughout the video to win her hand, and he is assisted by several dance troupes. Watch the video below.
