“I Forgot That You Existed” is the first track on the seventh studio album ‘Lover’ by Taylor Swift.
The much-anticipated 2019 album ‘Lover’ contains 18 tracks on the standard edition including three singles “ME!” featuring Brendon Urie, “You Need to Calm Down” and the title track “Lover.” The new album is in complete contrast to Taylor’s previous album ‘Reputation’ released in 2017, which focused on speaking out her mind against her haters. In this era, however, Taylor Swift is in love, and that reflects throughout the album.
“I Forgot That You Existed” is a slap-back at all the haters and ones who started feuds with Taylor Swift before ‘Lover’ era. She has started on her journey of moving on and now she feels indifferent about all her haters and competition. Listen to the song below.

In the first verse of the song, Taylor admits that she used to let her haters get to her head. She calls it ‘letting them live in her head, rent-free.’ All the shade that came pouring down on her almost drowned her sunshine. A series of breakups, all the drama with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian-West, public scrutiny, lack of privacy did get to her head, which is perfectly reflected through her ‘Reputation‘ era.
Taylor also nods at the #1 hit single “In My Feelings” by Drake. The phrase means to have someone in your emotions, usually someone who has had a negative effect on you.
Taylor says one night something magical happened which made her stop worrying about everything else in the past. Going by the theme of the ‘Lover’ album, we would guess that this incident was meeting Joe Alwyn and being in a relationship with him since 2016. Everything that bothered her, became just a speck of dust on the long road she was travelling. She let go of the dirty strings that held her to the past. Three years later, in 2019, Taylor Swift has almost forgotten ‘his’ existence. Here, ‘his’ means everyone who did her bad in the past–boyfriends who broke her heart, artists who shamed her, personalities who sexually assaulted her and so on.
Love truly has magical powers, and Taylor’s entire ‘Lover’ album is witness to that. Let us hear what you think about “I Forgot That You Existed” in the comments below.
The complete album released on August 23, 2019, through Republic Records.
I f*cking love Taylor.
