BTS – 시차 My Time (English) | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“My Time” is the ninth track on BTS’ 2020 album ‘MAP OF THE SOUL: 7.’ This track is a solo work by Jungkook narrating his story of being an apprentice musician to one of the biggest stars in the world. Let’s review the lyrics and meaning behind this track.

‘MAP OF THE SOUL: 7′ is BTS’ eleventh studio album and fourth full-length album. It is also the second installment of the ‘MAP OF THE SOUL’ series, following ‘Persona’ released in 2019. The album produced singles such as “Black Swan,” “Make It Right,” and “Outro” prior to the album release on February 21, 2020.

Verse 1

In the first verse of the song, Jungkook reflects on his present life. He is one of the biggest pop stars in the world. BTS is currently valued at a net worth of $60 million prior to the album release. So by now, their net worth would soar to approximately $70 million and that’s a comfortable $10 million to each member of the group.

Jungkook says he flies around the world to different concerts and for his personal affairs while his friends take the trains. As a child, he found the world to be a massive place. Now, it is a matter of flying for a few hours to get around the world. He wonders if he is missing out on life. The singer is also unsure if this is what life is meant to be. This lifestyle is guaranteed to drop out a few friends who might have been near and dear to him growing up. He wonders if it is all worth it in the end.

Chorus

Jungkook knows that he is missing out on some aspects of life with his lifestyle. It is not easy being a superstar known by the entire world.

Post-chorus

He wonders if he could catch up on the time (or rather the experiences that come with it) someday! Probably not! Time is a fickle thing.

Verse 2

Jungkook admits that he feels lost in time. BTS has been active for 7 years now and the time must have flown in this period. One moment he was a kid with big dreams and in the next, he is living the dreams. He wonders if he still is that kid inside. Because at 24 years of age, Jungkook has very little time for the things he loved when he was a kid. He has other priorities now and he wonders if he has his priorities right.

Surrounded by millions of fans, it is often the natural case that superstars feel alone and lost in their own miniature worlds.

Bridge

Jungkook admits that even he needs his privacy. Sometimes it all gets too overwhelming. He also wants to have a free breath of air. So a low-drawn hat helps him hide his identity and take a walk on the streets.

Despite everything, Jungkook says that he is happy that he has his fanbase no matter what. He cheers once for the present and two times for the past, completing his three cheers. It is important that he decided to cheer twice to the past, signaling that he has not forgotten his roots.
