Justin Bieber has been having a super run in 2017. Pretty much every work he has taken part in has been a stellar success. For an example, “I’m The One,” “Despacito (Remix)” and “2U” to name a few. We just might have to add his latest track “Friends” to the charts as well. “Friends” was released as a collaboration with BloodPop, with whom the hit single “Sorry” came to be. This is a song about a relationship ended and Bieber trying to hold on to whatever the remnants left of it for old-times sake.
Releasing the announce of the song, Justin Bieber posted the following snippet and video teaser on his Facebook page.

The lyrics to the song are quite simple and straightforward, but we will take a look at them.

Justin Bieber is clearly making small talk, pretending to be interested about his lovers’ mother. But he just clearly wants to talk to her. The singer knows about her family issues, which means that at one point he was quite close to this girl. But now, he doesn’t have any connection with her at all. If he did, he would know if her mom got her dream hob. Some time back, he would be the first person to know about such a big news. But now they are quite distant. Justin Bieber doesn’t want to invade her privacy too, now that they are broken up, hence the awkward remark that he just wants to know about her mother.

Justin Bieber ensures that he has no ulterior motives of calling her so much. He really does miss her now, because they did have a good run while they lasted. But it looks as if the ending of it was quite ugly and both did not end things on a positive note. The singer still feels guilty about it long after breaking up. He assures that he just wants to be friends for old times’ sake.

The singer is pleading her to remain friends. They had a good run and he does not want to throw everything in the past and move on. He wants to hold on to some piece of the past that was vibrant and fulfilling. Even if the relationship falls apart, he is wondering if they have a chance at friendship. Can exes be friends? Justin Bieber has absolutely no clue as to what is going on in her life now. It is fair to assume that they have been broken up for quite some time now and it is killing him to think that she might have moved on. Even worse, if she has found someone else to hold on to in the night. He then wonders if she even thinks about him at night. But he realizes that according to the way they left things when they broke up, she probably does not think about him. So he asks her not to answer to that.
“Friends” by Justin Bieber is a really sad song that we can all relate to. The hardest part is moving on and realizing that the other party has moved on.
However, with some EDM magic by BloodPop, “Friends” has become a club-track that we can all dance away to.
