We are all due for a treat this Christmas as several of your favourite actors and actresses transform themselves into cats to narrate us a furry tale. Stars such as James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Jennifer Hudson, Edris Elba, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, Francesca Hayward and Taylor Swift will be casting in this movie. What’s more? The movie soundtrack is to include some original songs by these artists.
Taylor Swift took to social media today to preview a song she has written and recorded for ‘Cats the Movie.’ The single, titled “Beautiful Ghosts,” is a song for the new talent Francesca Hayward who plays the role of ‘Victoria’ in the movie.
In the video, Taylor Swift talks about working with the legend of Andrew Lloyd Webber, who composed the music for this track. She admits that the song was supposed to be performed by Francesca for her role in the movie, but somehow Taylor ended up recording the song herself.
Andrew Lloyd Webber talked in stunning appreciation of how Taylor Swift wrote the lyrics to “Beautiful Ghosts” “then and there.”
The director of the movie, Tom Hooper, also sits down for this interview and talks about working with Taylor; “What I couldn’t believe was the extraordinary beauty of these lyrics Taylor had written, and it was as if someone had come in to the film I was in the middle of making and read the script and met the actors and seen the world and reflected back to me a profound understanding of what I was trying to do with the movie. So it was utterly thrilling.”
The snippet of “Beautiful Ghosts” sing;
Perilous night, their voices calling
A flicker of light before the dawning

Taylor Swift also makes witty jokes trying to justify why she is the ideal candidate to write lyrics for the songs of this movie. The original text for ‘Cats’ story has been written by the great writer and poet T. S. Elliot. So who better to represent his work than Taylor Swift (T. S.)?
‘Cats the Movie’ comes to theatres on December 20, 2019.
