“Sweet Melody” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
In the first verse of the song, Jade Thirlwall sings about a recollection from a previous life-or maybe she is trying to hide the fact that this was a real-life of experience of her, but she is too reluctant to accept this reality.
She sings about a boy she knew. He was in a band, wrote songs, and made her feel like a woman. This boy wrote love songs about her and she was not a big fan of those songs. Maybe the songs spoke of his POV on their relationship, and we are about to find out why these love songs were one-sided accounts. However, she admits that the melodies were sweet.
In the second verse of the song, Jesy Nelson starts her POV on this relationship. She says that every time they went out, she caught his eyes wandering in too many directions, and not towards her. This implies that he was checking out other females around them. Jesy says that she gave him plenty of chances to get his act right, but this boy failed. When Jesy could not handle his silly behavior anymore, she turns away to leave him. But every time she gets transfixed by his sweet melodies.
All the Little Mix girls join vocals for the chorus of “Sweet Melody.” In these lyrics, Little Mix sings how the girls were enchanted by this boy’s sweet melodies of love songs. But, these melodies were only going to mend this relationship so far. At some point, the girls had to break their trance and make up their minds.
In the third verse, Perrie Edwards reveals the true depths of this boy’s infidelity. She says that this boy cheated on her and lied to her. This is a recipe for disaster. She also admits that he used to manipulate her with his songs and sweet whispers. She danced to his broken beats like a tiny dancer. “Tiny Dancer” is also a reference to the iconic song of the same name by Sir Elton John, released in 1972.
Perrie says that when she realized how much she was manipulated in this relationship, she made a concrete decision about them. No sweet melody in the world could save this relationship now.
This ‘sweet melody’ by this band-boy is in fact the refrain on this song itself. And to the credit of this band-boy, it is a very catchy melody.
