“Lost Cause” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, Billie Eilish sings about the boy who could not be saved. She specifically sings about one day when she was expecting to see him and as usual, he did not show up. Maybe, it was her birthday. Billie wonders if he cares at all. But nothing matters now. She is over her. And this is evident from the music video, where Billie and her friends are having the time of their life in each others’ company.
Pre-chorus
In these lyrics, Billie Eilish recalls an instance where she sent her ex-boyfriend flowers. She knows he did not care about the flowers at all, because she found them withering away on the stairs in his house.
Chorus
In the chorus of “Lost Cause,” Billie Eilish sings how disappointed she is at this ex-boyfriend. She tried her best to change his ways–to get him to care an ounce about them. But he was nothing but a lost cause.
In Billie’s previous single “Your Power,” she talked about her ex-boyfriend Brandon Adams AKA 7: AMP. She revealed that Brandon had no interest in their relationship even though they were together.
In her recent documentary ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,’ she talked about her relationship with 7: AMP; “I just wasn’t happy. And I didn’t want the same things he wanted and I don’t think that’s fair, for him. I don’t think you should be in a relationship, super excited about certain things that the other person couldn’t care less about.”
Verse 2
Billie Eilish was mistaken for the most part of their relationship. She thought he was a shy guy who was just bad at expressing his emotions. But, it turns out, he had no emotions towards her to show.
Billie Eilish seems to be revealing her past personal experiences leading up to her new album release. Most of the themes are sour. However, the best part about them is that they are in the past. So, moving on, at this point in her life, Billie Eilish is happier than ever!
Along with the brand new album release, Billie Eilish announced her highly anticipated world tour with pitstops in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, and Switzerland. Check all scheduled dates and venues and buy tickets on Ticketmaster.
