megan thee stallion cobra lyrics meaning review

Megan Thee Stallion – Cobra | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

When Megan Thee Stallion announced her snake-themed track, a lot of eyes drew comparisons to the most famous snake-themed song “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj. The two artists have been in a cold war for a long time attempting to solidify who the queen of hip-hop is. However, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Cobra” reveals us a side of the singer that we have never seen before.

“Cobra” is likely the first taste of what’s to come from Megan Thee Stallion’s upcoming third studio album. The song sees Megan exploring a whole new dimension of her musical persona, being vulnerable and transparent about the issues she has gone through in the recent past.

Usually, Megan is a ferocious act in her music–a beacon of strength and confidence. In “Cobra,” she becomes much more vulnerable as she speaks about her transformation and the snakes that surround her, both in the music industry and in her personal life.

Days prior to the release of the song, Megan Thee Stallion posted a picture of the symbolic meaning of the cobra–“exemplification of courage and self-reliance, stand tall and fierce in the face of challenges.”

Megan Thee Stallion “Cobra” Lyrics Review and Song Meaning

The first verse talks about the lows she has experienced in her career. Megan Thee Stallion shot to stardom from the very beginning of her career in 2016. However, with fame and fortune comes misfortune and pressure, too.

Megan says that at times when she just broke down and cried, the world kept watching. In 2019, Megan’s mother passed away suffering from cancer, and in 2020 was involved in a shooting incident with rapper Tory Lanez. Both incidents added to the lows of her mental wellbeing and she truly felt like no one was on her side.

Why would anyone stop and comfort her? There’s no fame to be gained or money to be made in it. If she suffers, there’s money to be made in it, too.

Bet if I ever fall off, everybody go missin’

Hollywood is as materialistic as it gets. As long as she is winning and making money, she will have masses around her. If she ever stops being in the limelight, all the leeches would wander away to find a new host.

In the second verse, Megan talks about missing her parents. Her father passed away in 2011 when she was only 16 years old. At 28 years old now, she still misses them and often drowns in anxiety.

Megan also mentions catching his partner cheating in the same bed they sleep in every night. Feelings of distrust overtake her. Fame and fortune has always been a massive obstacle for relationships. You can hardly tell the snakes apart from the cobras.

Megan confesses that every little incident, on their own passes unnoticed, they all add up in the long run. And it would only take one more of these little incidents to trip the first domino.

However, the singer also admits that she does have a life that a lot of people would do anything to have. She is being hard on herself so that no one else can do that to her.
