Zach Bryan has been busy over the past few days releasing two new tracks back-to-back. “High Road” was accompanied by “This World’s A Giant,” both personal tracks to the artist.
In the wake of Zach Bryan’s ex-girlfriend’s accusations, “High Road” comes as the artist’s perspective of things. In an Instagram post, Zach Bryan shared some personal thoughts on what has been going on recently and that he has plans to quit touring following his ‘Quittin Time’ tour.
Also in today’s news, Bryan’s ex-girlfriend, Brianna LaPaglia, aka Brianna Chickenfry, talked about their breakup on her Barstool podcast BFFs and accused him of “emotional abuse.” She said that Bryan’s team offered $12 million dollars and an apartment in New York to sign an NDA about their relationship. She did not sign it.

Zach Bryan “High Road” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
In the first verse of the song, Zach Bryan’s memories throw back to some good times. He might as well have been in a drug-fueled halucination back then. He thought the purple haze was love.
In the latter part of the verse, Zach Bryan talks about his not-so-fond memories about New York. He has spent many months in the city, likely with his partner, and now he can only recall the bad about it. He recalls the pubs and bars he and his friends frequented. Boys are all good and well until things hit the fan. Then they are all useless. Everybody has one answer these days ‘go to therapy.’
The chorus of the song seems to be talking about Zach’s mother who passed away in 2016.
She’s bound to come back and haunt you forever
Zach could be talking about his mother’s lasting impact on his life. He is going to forever miss her dearly. Every night he sits by the telephone for a phone call that never comes.
Zach could also mean is ex-girlfriend’s memories could haunt him forever. Maybe this is why he wanted an NDA from her after their separation.
The second verse of the song is purely dedicated to Zach’s mother, Anette. He recalls how she used to believe in his music career when nobody knew him. Zach says the ‘bad things’ took her brain that caused her death. It is known that Anette was struggling with alcohol addiction which likely led to organ failure.
The quite dreams that wake Zach up in the middle of the nights are getting a little too loud now. The voices are getting louder.
