Listen to “Sucker For Pain” from Suicide Squad Soundtrack (Lyrics Review)

Probably one of the most awaited movies of 2016 is just around the corner and we have been given “Sucker For Pain” track from the movie to hype things up more. ‘Suicide Squad’ movie will be released worldwide early August and the soundtrack is pretty damn sweet.

First we got to preview “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots as the first release from ‘Suicide Squad: The Album‘ and now we are given “Sucker For Pain” by a bunch of mainstream artists. The artist line-up on this track is awesome, and although it was a gamble to combine so many voices into a 4 minute track, it came out very fine.

This track has that ominous aura that’s just perfect for the theme of the movie. And those crazy high pitched screams are perfectly in sync with what the Joker will bring to the table in the movie. It has that sinister tune, but lined with some good lyrics.

Lyrics Review of “Sucker For Pain” from Suicide Squad OST

The unmistakable vocals of Dan Reynold of Imagine Dragons gives life to the song.

I torture you
Take my hand through the flames
I torture you
I’m a slave to your games
I’m just a sucker for pain
I wanna chain you up
I wanna tie you down
I’m just a sucker for pain

With him joins Sam Harris the lead singer of X Ambassadors.

This chorus of “Sucker For Pain” perfectly sums up the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker. In the story line the Joker tortures Harley Quinn and she seems to love every bit of it. ‘Sucker for pain’ means someone is uncontrollably and inexplicably in love with pain and hat’s what Harley Quinn feels towards the Joker. She is a sucker for the evil games he plays. It’s pain in it’s sweetest form.

Ty Dolla $ign joins in on “Sucker For Pain”;

I’m a sucker for pain
I got the squad tatted on me from my neck to my ankles

He begins where Dan Reynolds left off and gives a nod to the chorus above.

The Joker we find in Suicide Squad is tattooed all over the body. This may contradict with the comics, but we might find solace in the new and improved Joker. Let’s wait and see.

'Suicide Squad'
‘Suicide Squad’

Pressure from the man got us all in rebellion
We gon’ go to war, yeah, without failure

‘The man’ is a reference to any person or party that uses dirty tricks to get his way. Ty Dolla $ign talks about the ‘man’ because the man is the Government in Suicide Squad movie. The man will do anything and everything in his power to oppress those who are below him and get his dirty work done. And those who are oppressed will go to war for him.

Do it for the fam, dog, ten toes down, dog
Love and the loyalty that’s what we stand for

Dolla $ign says he’d rather do it for his family which includes his friends as well and love and loyalty is what really drives them.

Alienated by society, all this pressure give me anxiety
Walk slow through the fire
Like, who gon’ try us?
Feeling the world go against us
So we put the world on our shoulders

When you are a super villain (as the squad in the movie) you obviously get alienated by the society. You fit nowhere and that gives him heartache. Fire is the world around them and they are on a slow journey through it. There’s no one to empathize with them. The world is going in the wrong direction. So in reality, the ‘super villains’ are the ones who are actually doing anything. So they have the burden of the world on their shoulders.

The chorus of “Sucker For Pain” repeats…

Logic joins in on the rap.

I been at it with my homies
It don’t matter, you don’t know me
I been rollin’ with my team, we the illest on the scene
I been riding ’round the city with my squad
I been riding ’round the city with my squad
We just posted, getting crazy, living like this is so amazing

Logic speaks about the tight knot that binds the team. Others may have a judging eye on your homies but that’s alright, because they don’t really know the team-just like the team in Suicide Squad.

Hold up take a step back, when we roll up, cause I know what
We been loyal, we been fam, we the ones you trust in
Won’t hesitate to go straight to your head like a concussion

Logic raps about what motivates him-family, loyalty and trust. If someone in your squad needs you, you will go fight head on, no questions asked. That’s how strong the bond between them is.

I know I been bustin’, no discussion for my family
No hesitation, through my scope I see my enemy
Like what’s up? Hold up, we finna re-load up
Yes I re-load up, I know what up, I know what up

Logic has been busting raps and he has been doing good work at it too. His words and his music are his scope. He directs his lyricism to attack the enemy.

Lil Wayne joins in “Sucker For Pain’s” third verse…

I’m devoted to destruction
A full dosage of detrimental dysfunction
I’m dying slow but the devil tryna rush me
See I’m a fool for pain, I’m a dummy

Lil Wayne delivers some killer lines and rhymes in the track. Maybe he voices Joker in these lines when he says he is devoted to destruction. As the Joker himself is a villain hell bent on creating chaos and destruction.

The Joker with his torture weapons
The Joker with his torture weapons

Everybody is inching towards their death no matter how much we dislike the thought. But the devil speeds up that process. Devil here refers to all the bad things we tend to do. And the funny part is, we are in love with destroying ourselves than healing. So yes, we indeed are fools.

Might cut my head off right after I slit my throat
Tongue kiss a shark, got jealous bitches up in the boat
Eating peanut butter and jelly fishes on toast
And if I get stung I get stoked, might choke

What is the purpose of cutting off your head right after you slit your throat? The only purpose is gain pleasure through pain. It could also be in line with the lines before that mentioned about being a fool-doing something unnecessary.

Tongue kissing a shark and eating a jelly fish on a toast are sure ways to call it quits. These crazy thoughts are a good match for the theme of the movie.

Like I chewed a chunk of charcoal
Naked in the North Pole
That’s why my heart cold, full of sorrow, the lost soul

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad
Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad

Lil Wayne says how emotionless he has become towards this society. A chunk of charcoal has no taste or nutritional value. Guess he sees the modern society as a chunk of charcoal-burnt up and black and dirty. And he has become to heartless because of all that.

And only Lord knows when I’m coming to the crossroads
So I don’t fear shit but tomorrow
And I’m a sucker for pain, it ain’t nothing but pain
You just fuckin’ complain, you ain’t tough as you claim
Just stay up in your lane, just don’t fuck with Lil Wayne
I’mma jump from a plane or stand in front of a train
Cause I’m a sucker for pain

A crossroad is a turning point in your life-it could mean the end or a new beginning. But, you wouldn’t know what the God has in his plans for you. So there’s nothing to be feared of tomorrow as God is in the driving seat.

Lil Wayne addresses his enemies too, asking them to mind their own business and not to feud with Lil Wayne.

Wiz Khalifa comes in on the final verse of “Sucker For Pain”;

Used to doing bad, now we feel like we just now getting it
Ain’t got no other way so we started and finished it
No pain, no gain
Never stand down, made our own way
Never going slow, we pick up the pace
This is what we wanted from a young age
No emotion, that’s what business is
Lord have mercy on the witnesses

When you keep on doing bad things, there comes a point where you won’t be able to tell the difference. But at that point there’s no other way to go, just forward, on the destructive and evil path you started on.

There’s no gain without pain. But ‘sucker for pain’ is a whole different story. Villain is the path they were born in to and it’s the only path they know to walk. There are no emotions involved-it’s just business.

Outro of the song is a repetition of the lines below sung by Sam Harris;

More pain
Got me begging, begging, begging, begging, begging
For more pain

This comes out as a voice from Harley Quinn where she keeps on begging for more and more pain. She sure is a sucker for pain.
