Zayn has been releasing new music all throughout 2018 in preparation for this moment. Today, the “Pillow Talk” superstar announced the release of his second solo studio album ‘Icarus Falls,’ available for download. With this inaugural release, he also released another promotional track titled “Common.”
‘Icarus Falls’ album has produced six singles so far: “Let Me,” “Entertainer,” “Sour Diesel,” “Too Much,” “Fingers” and “No Candle No Light.” With the new promotional track, the count goes up to seven. But not to worry, the entire album contains 27 tracks, including “Dusk Till Dawn,” and “Still Got Time” in the Japanese version of the album.
We hear Zayn singing about love, hearbreak, call girls, God, partying and living it up in majority of the songs. “Common” speaks about a struggling relationship-a doubt-filled mind questioning is it worth holding on to! Some predict the song could be about Zayn’s on-and-off girlfriend and supermodel Gigi Hadid.

Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “Common”
Verse 1
In “Common” we hear Zayn talking about being hurt from love in his previous experiences. Becasue of this, he has shut himself in, not letting anybody hurt him again. But this girl makes him feel different. She makes him want to open himself up again.
Refrain
Zayn is in a pickle. He wants to give this feeling another chance. He also sets his mind on ready-gear to be broken and destroyed again. But he would be damned if he doesn’t try, because he is feeling a different ‘love’ with this girl.
Pre-chorus
Zayn talks about the sweet lovin’ he would receive from this girl, all curled up in bed and laying her head on his chest. He loves the warmth her body radiates.
Zayn talks about the postmodern societies where most people mistake love for lust. Relationships start with sex and end in love. That is a cruel irony that wounds us all.
The closer Zayn gets to this girl, the more he realizes that there is nothing common between them. This could be disastrous if they don’t manage the situation well. They will either repel each other like water and diesel mixed together or they will match perfectly like two opposing jigsaw puzzle pieces.
Verse 2
The singer says that he is not blind to her imperfections. But it’s how you chose to see the other’s imperfections that matter. And Zayn loves them. He also goes on to say that what they have is a more spiritual connection than physical. They could pull it off! This gives us hope that they can try to make it work despite having anything ‘common’ between them.
Zayn performs “Common” over some smooth music that wooes us all. He really streteches his vocal range in this track, and we can’t wait for a music video for this.
