Dua Lipa begins her new year 2019 with a brand new song and a music video. However, this track is not from her personal arsenal, but rather from a movie soundtrack. Whichever it is, the new song and video finds Dua Lipa fighting for humanity in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
The new song titled “Swan Song” is not a swan dance at all. It is a battlecry and its empowering. The song is from the upcoming 20th Century Fox’s animated movie ‘Alita: Battle Angel’ due on February 14, 2019. The Robert Rodriguez directed movie takes place in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by robots.
“Alita: Battle Angel follows the story of the titular Alita (Salazar), a disembodied “core” who awakens with no memory in a post-apocalyptic world destroyed by a technological fall. Dr. Ido (Waltz) finds her and gives her a new body. They later discover that Alita is more than what she seems and has an extraordinary past. As she navigates her new life, she battles other machines who are empowered with skills.”

In the new video for “Swan Song,” we see Dua Lipa training herself in martial arts to lead the remaining survivors and take on the robots. She follows instructions from Alita the cyborg. In this process, we see that Dua Lipa transforms into a semi-robot as well.

The lyrics to the song are about fighting back. Dua Lipa constantly questions herself what good is her life if she stands down. She compares giving up to
Dua Lipa’s need for her and everyone else’s salvation is burning inside her. She got to train herself and train and motivate others around her to fight the robots who have overtaken the world. She is going to need more than just human hands to do this fight. May be that is why we see Lipa’s hands turn into metal as she keeps on perfecting her fighting skills.
Dua Lipa is the perfect choice for a song and video of this nature. She has a piercing personality and a strong presence. She would be the perfect rebel for a post-apocalyptic world.
