Eminem – Premonition (Intro) | Lyrics Review and Song Meaning
“Premonition” is the 1st track on Eminem’s 2020 album ‘Music to Be Murdered By.’ The song creates the link between Eminem’s last two albums; ‘Revival’ and ‘Kamikaze’ to his latest project. Eminem addresses the criticism he received for ‘Revival’ for being considered “weak” lyrically to his resurrection in ‘Kamikaze’ and subsequently in ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ albums.
Eminem released his much anticipated eleventh studio album titled ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ on January 17, 2020. Although the album was heavily awaited by Stans, the release of the album was a surprise as Eminem nor any official party gave out any confirmation of the release. ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ album consists a staggering 20 tracks and is considered as a double album. The album is seemingly an address to the current status of the Rap God, addressing his friends and foes in the game. This recent surprise project follows Eminem’s 2018 surprise hit ‘Kamikaze‘ album that literally attacked every disdainful aspect in society including mumble rap.
In “Premonition,” Eminem goes through the timeline of his career; from him being considered a “lyrical genius” to “lyrical whack” in modern times. This is in the same era where mumble rap is considered the hype!
Eminem goes on to say that even if he is half as good as he was back in the golden days, he is still twice as good as you on your golden days.
