The official music video for “South of the Border” by Ed Sheeran premiered today and it does not disappoint. Although the lyrics suggest a mere love story happening between two long-distance lovers, the music video shows a whole different storyline.
Directed by Jason Koenig, “South of the Border” music video pretty much sums up an entire action-genre movie in under 5 minutes. The tagline for the video is “A Frivolous Spy Film.” The cast of the video is introduced as Ed Sheeran as Teddy Fingers, a spy. Then there’s Camila Cabello as Mariposa, another spy, and Cardi B as, well, Cardi B. The video also introduces two new characters-Alexis Ren and Paul Karmiryan, the latter being Agent X. Alexis Ren is a 22-year-old model known for her appearances in Maxim and Sports Illustrated magazines.
The video starts off with Alexis Ren and Ed Sheeran at a party, getting intimate and Ms Ren poisoning Ed’s drink. She takes him to his house and steals a valuable necklace. Ren escapes to the south of the border to a secret base. Camila Cabello interferes with Ren and captured both Ren and Agent X. Cardi B is found inside a dungeon in this base, who helps Ren escape.

The entire music video is action-packed from the start to the end. There is massive talent throughout the video from Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, Camila Cabello and with acting from Alexis Ren and Paul Karmiryan. All the people look gorgeous and so are the sceneries used.
And what’s more? You also get a little smack talking session by Cardi B to Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello after the credits roll. That is why Cardi B is cast as Cardi B herself.
