We’re in love with love. So much so that marriage rates are rising, with the number of married couples in the U.S. reaching 61.24 million last year.
Whether it’s expressed through societal traditions, in our hopes and dreams, or in the media we consume, it’s so much fun to think about our happily ever after. These five songs about getting married are perfect examples of what we’re talking about.
They’re sweet, sappy, and may make you shed a tear! Here are some of our favourite songs about celebrating the biggest day of your life.
1. “Marry Me” by Train
There’s more to this song than the title might let on. Instead, “Marry Me” is akin to “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s or “You’re Beautiful” by James Blunt, with the protagonist swooning over a crush in a café.
We promise it’s less cliché than it sounds.
Lyrics like, “Forever can never be long enough for me” or, “And love and has finally shown her my way/Marry me/Today and every day” Train’s ode to marriage is a beautiful tune.
2. “Chapel of Love” by The Dixie Cups
You may not recognize this tune by name, but you’ve undoubtedly heard The Dixie Cups’ earworm before. But this one is straight from the book of classic hits.
First released in 1964, “Chapel of Love” doesn’t muddy its message with a hidden meaning. It’s a cute, fun tune about getting married to the love of your life and the excitement leading up to the big moment.
It isn’t the deepest song in the world, but we promise you’ll have a hard time trying not to sing along.
3. “All of Me” by John Legend
Written as a love song to his wife, Chrissy Teigen, John Legend raised the bar with this one. The lyrics serve as a perfect representation of what a marriage should be about: loving your spouse for who they are, imperfections and all.
Truth be told, this one isn’t explicitly about getting married. But it’s so romantic that you could easily use it to walk down the aisle.
Or if you’re looking to get engaged, you can set the mood for an unforgettable moment by having Legend’s love song playing in the background. If you’re ready to take the next step, Rockher has you covered, so check out their collection.
4. “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green
“Let me say that since, baby, since we’ve been together/Loving you forever/Is what I need.” Al Green has this romance thing on lock, to put it mildly.
At its core, “Let’s Stay Together” is a beautiful song about working things out, even when you don’t always see eye to eye. And when it comes down to it, that’s what love is really about. Listen to this truly epic tribute to love.
5. “Marry You” by Bruno Mars
We’re a little surprised this song never blew up like Mars’ other songs. Still, “Marry You” is as heartfelt and fun as his other tunes.
The lyrics detail a couple who have had a bit too much to drink eloping and hitting up a local chapel. Sure, it might not be anyone’s dream wedding, but it’s enough for them at the moment.
