The Weeknd – Snowchild | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“Snowchild” is the fifth track on The Weeknd’s 2020 album ‘After Hours.’ The song has Abel reflecting on his childhood and the journey in music so far.

After Hours‘ is The Weeknd’s fourth studio album released on March 20, 2020. The album produced singles such as “Blinding Lights,” “Heartless,” title track “After Hours” and “Scare To Live” all throughout 2020. Abel himself called this album his ‘PSYCHOTIC CHAPTER’ at the reveal of the album.

The Weeknd does not shy away from talking about his interests in women, sex and drugs throughout the song. The song title ‘snow’ itself is slang for cocaine.

In the second verse of the song, we hear The Weeknd shouting out Eminem; “Stack a couple M’s like I was Shady.” ‘M’ referencing to both ‘M&M’ (sounding Eminem) and ‘millions’ of dollars.

The Weeknd mentions attending Coachella Valley Music Festival with this girl. However, he attended Coachella with Selena Gomez in 2017 and with Bella Hadid in 2018.

The Weeknd also name drops several artists on this track; Jay-Z, Eminem (Slim Shady), Hajime Sorayama, Patrick Swayze, Swae Lee, Phillip K Dick, and John Birks “Dizzy” Gillespie.
