The Weeknd – Alone Again | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

“Alone Again” is the opening track on The Weeknd’s 2020 album ‘After Hours.’ This song, as the opener to the album, sends out a keen message on Abel’s substance abuse and his fears for his own life.

After Hours‘ is The Weeknd’s fourth studio album released on March 20, 2020. The album produced singles such as “Blinding Lights,” “Heartless,” title track “After Hours” and “Scare To Live” all throughout 2020. Abel himself called this album his ‘PSYCHOTIC CHAPTER’ at the reveal of the album.

In the lyrics, Abel talks about feeling not himself. When this happens, his recourse is burning through stacks of money to find peace somewhere else. Las Vegas, known as the Sin City, is his home in these troubled times. This place escapes him to a different world, a hazy dream, in which he is bulletproof.

In the song, Abel describes himself as floating high with his drug-fueled rages. He knows he pushes his limits with these drugs and he also knows that it will be just a little too much one day. He is scared to die but might be more scared to live alone and unloved.
