The song samples a dialogue of a person attending a Townhall meeting in Pennsylvania in 2009. The angry audience member confronted the senator Arlen Specter and spoke out loud “I came prepared to speak, but instead, you wouldn’t let anybody speak.” Watch the below video from 0.58-minute mark.
Lyrics Review and Song Meaning of “the light is coming”
Verse 1
The first verse is done by Nicki Minaj and she addresses her haters in these lyrics. She shouts back to her single “Chun-Li” which is rumored to be about Cardi B or Remy Ma.
Nicki also speaks about keeping her ‘Queen’ status in the industry, which was lately challenged by Cardi B with many hits back-to-back. It is unclear whom she refers to as “F boys” but it could be solemnly referring to a girl as well.
Chorus
The chorus done by Ariana is only one line repeated four times, with the sample about played in between each line.
The one lyric line speaks about how “light” which usually refers to good things bringing back the positives that were stolen by the “darkness” which refers to bad things.
