Rami Malek Wins Golden Globe for Best Actor for ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ Dedicates Award to Freddie Mercury

The 2019 Golden Globe awards ceremony was yet again filled with controversy as many of the expected wins were blundered. However, the highest grossing biopic movie of all time-‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ managed to bag a few headlining award categories during the night.

The 76th Golden Globe awards took place last Monday (7th) at The Beverly Hilton, California with the attendance of a star-studded audience. This year’s awards gala was hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.

The Queen biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ managed to bad the coveted ‘Best Motion Picture – Drama’ category, while lead actor Rami Malek managed to win ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama’ category. Legendary Queen’s living members-Brian May and Roger Taylor were among the attendees to congratulate Rami Malek. The movie won among other high contendors such as ‘Black Panther,’ ‘BlackKklansman,’ ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ and ‘A Star Is Born.’

Rami Malek’s first Golden Globe award made him quite emotional as he took on the stage to accept the award. He thanked his parents, family, the ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ cast and Brian May and Roger Taylor especially for helping to preserve the authenticity of the movie.

“…and of course to Queen, to Brian May, to Roger Taylor for ensuring that authenticity and inclusivity exists in the music and in the world and in all of us. Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is (award) for and because of you, gorgeous.”

The song “Bohemian Rhapsody” is one of the epic ballads written by Queen’s frontman Freddie Mercury. Combined with Rock, Pop, Ballad and Operatic music, this song went on to be one of the hallmarks of Rock music and in music history altogether.
