Demi Lovato – I Love Me | Lyrics Meaning & Song Review

Demi Lovato hits us back with a self-love anthem after recovering from her own struggle times. The new single is aptly titled “I Love Me” and talks about different ways she used to put herself down. But no longer will she tolerate that.

“I Love Me” is the second single off of Demi’s upcoming 7th studio album, yet to be named. She first released a heartbreaking single “Anyone,” talking about not finding help when she was sinking in her problems. The new album by Demi Lovato is already promising to be her most personal and confessional album yet.

In the new single, Demi admits that she used to let everything around her let her down. How others look, behave, comments on the Internet, hate speech, the influence of bad friends and more. But this song takes a stance, no more will she let others get into her.

Verse 1

Demi talks about a few things that she let herself down by. All the models in magazines asking you to be pretty, white and thin, and the same magazine tells you how to eat like a model and dress like a model. Demi says that every time she ate something, she used to feel guilty because these magazines (or media) have embedded the ideas in her head on how to “live a perfect life.” So she constantly has voices inside her head screaming “you’re such a shame.”

Demi Lovato has publicly admitted about her eating disorders as well as substance abuse from a young age.

Pre-chorus

A ‘black-belt’ is the highest level of expertise in Karate you can achieve. So Demi says that she used to beat herself up plenty about these external things.

Chorus

The chorus of “I Love Me” has an important message. “Why do I compare myself to everyone?” asks Demi Lovato and that is a good question. In this world, there is no need for anyone to be anyone else. They can be just themselves and be just happy.

She wonders if she has done enough to love herself all this time. Maybe she realizes that blaming herself for every imperfection is not the healthiest way to live your life. The best way to live your life is to be yourself.

Verse 2

In the second verse, Demi talks about the disease that is the Internet. “Freedom of speech” has gone into a whole new level where criticizing or even shaming an artist for their creation has become totally acceptable. Demi released her first studio album ‘Don’t Forget’ at the age of 16. Now a 27-year-old, you could imagine the “critiques” she had to go through her life at a very young age. This could take a toll on someone’s mental health. The only thing wrong she did was, let these haters get into her head!

Bridge

Demi Lovato is on a path of self-love now. She realizes that she is a 10/10 and she should not forget that.

Demi Lovato’s “I Love Me” is the perfect self-confidence booster for anyone who needed it. Let us know what you think about the song by dropping a comment below.
