Selena Gomez dropped the deluxe version of her latest album ‘Rare‘ and we have three new songs; “Souvenir,” “She” and “Boyfriend.” On the latter, Selena Gomez expresses her need for a partner in her life given that all of them so far have been so unsteady.
Selena Gomez talked about the idea behind this track in a Tweet; “It’s a lighthearted song about falling down and getting back up time and time again in love, but also knowing that you don’t need anyone other than yourself to be happy.”
She also mentioned that she would be donating $1 for every sale on her store for COVID-19 relief activities.
Listen to “Boyfriend” by Selena Gomez
In the lyrics of this track, Selena Gomez talks about how her relationships have failed her so far in life. But she is not about to give up just yet. She might have tried to “take shortcuts” in love which may have proven fatal. The singer also hints that the ones she had found so far are “wrong ones” and asks “are there any good ones left?” Ouch, Bieber!
Selena Gomez also says that she is okay being on her own. She enjoys her company. But there are some nights where it is just unbearable to be alone. These COVID-19 quanrantined periods for example. How wonderful would it be to be locked in a house with your favourite person in the world!
The singer also suggests that she could call a “friend” over. Using a “hotline” is a clear indication to buying some companionship. But none of these are permenant and they usually only fill a physical need. So she keeps on looking for the One.
