Bossa Nova is a traditional Brazilian music genre from the mid-20th Century. It stems from Samba-Jazz and is characterized by a smooth feel and interesting rhythmic features.
Billie Eilish spoke about the inspiration for the song with Spotify; “‘Billie Bossa Nova’ is a little bit of a fancy, I don’t know what. We actually called this song “Billie Bossa Nova” because in, I want to say, spring of 2019, my brother sent me a beat he had made. He called it “Billie Bossa Nova” ‘cause it was just a bossa nova-type beat and I was like “that’s amazing” and then nothing happened for a year and a half. Then we listened to it again and kinda wrote this fantasy, romanticized, glorified, dream.”

“Billie Bossa Nova” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
Billie Eilish sings about her backstage and alleyways love story that she feels the need to keep in the dark from the media. This correlates to the reality that she has to hide from paparazzi in her real life, despite the fantasy love story in this song.
‘Using different names for hotel check-ins’ is a typical celebrity act to protect their privacy from the media and paparazzi. Billie Eilish has been a superstar since 17 years of age. She will never be able to have a normal childhood or teenage life in private.
But there’s somethin’ ’bout the way you look tonight, mmm
Makes me wanna take a picture
Make a movie with you that we’d have to hide
Most often than not the stardom does affect the personal lives of celebrities. It comes to a level where they have no privacy at all. Usually, their partners feel it the worse. Billie might be used to running away from the cameras and crazy fans and hiding from the public. But if she does date a non-celebrity person, they would be very much overwhelmed with the lack of privacy which could most likely lead to them breaking up.
Social media only shows the glitz and glamour. The reality is much less glorious for celebrities.
