Lana Del Rey – Thunder | Lyrics Meaning Explained

“Thunder” is the tenth track on Lana Del Rey’s 2021 album ‘Blue Banisters.’ The upbeat track talks about the effect of Lana’s boyfriend’s thunderous presence!

Lana Del Rey announced her eighth studio album ‘Blue Banisters’ expected to release on July 4, 2021. Along with the surprise announcement, Lana released three brand new singles off the album, along with the title track. It has only been just over a year when Lana released her previous project ‘Chemtrails Over the Country Club‘ in March 2021.

In the song, Lana Del Rey talks about how her boyfriend makes her feel. When he comes into her town, he paints the town with his energy. The town is afire when he is around.

Lana Del Rey brings in a classic song to describe his presence; “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers. In this song, Mr. Brightside is a man who smiles when his world burns in front of his eyes. However, Lana could be referencing the flamboyant style of the music video.

Listen to “Thunder” by Lana Del Rey

Throughout the song, Lana Del Rey brings in synonyms to show how alive this person is. From thunder to lightning in a bottle to keeping on burning to keeping her ablaze. Lightning cannot be controlled by locking it inside a bottle. So is this person’s personality – explosive but beautiful.

Fire, as essential as it to life and everything around us, can also burn.

Just keep burnin’, ’til rain (Just do it, don’t wait)

Lana knows that this is nothing that is meant to last forever. She knows the rain is somewhere in the distance and it is going to pour over her spark.

The chorus of the song also seems to talk about the inevitable end of Lana and her fiery boyfriend’s story. She repeats “Just do it, don’t wait” as if to say that they might as well be done with it right now.

Despite Lana Del Rey being mesmerized by this guy’s personality, she sees all the red flags ahead of time. He is not in town most of the time – wanders away with his friends. He is like lightning when he comes into town – other women might be feeling the same way about him as Lana does. This guy is boozed out of his might at every party. He is also not satisfied having a rainbow (everything) in his life. Lana cannot expect anything ‘steady’ with this guy. And opposites do attract.
