The remix of “The Joker And The Queen” from Ed Sheeran’s 2021 album is set to release on Friday 11th of February 2022. And, as anticipated, the remix is set to feature vocals by Taylor Swift. And it is everything we wanted from these two magicians of vocals and songwriting!
In the original version, Ed Sheeran puts himself in the position of the jester of the court and wonders why the princess fell for him instead of all the princes in the kingdom. As per the snippet below, we can hear that Taylor Swift is on board. She expresses that all the riches of the kingdom could not keep her away from true love.
Bringing it in full circle, the actor and actress who plays Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift in “The Joker And The Queen (Remix)” music video are the two kids who played the same roles in “Everything Has Changed” music video by Taylor Swift featuring Ed Sheeran from 2012.

Me and Taylor first met and wrote + recorded our first song together in 2012, ten years ago now, I’m so so honoured to have her on this song. For the music video we got the kids from our song Everything Has Changed, all grown up and off to college now !

A joker or a jester plays a rather ‘insignificant’ role in a kingdom. Their sole duty is to make people laugh – especially the king. As such the jokers are not taken seriously most times. They are often brushed off into the shadows of the massive pillars of the king’s court.
In such a light, the queen falling in love with the joker is a very unlikely setting. But, as we said before, life does not always work out rationally.

Taylor Swift sings how she has been hiding behind a foolproof vest her whole life being afraid to open herself up and get heartbroken. It takes someone likeminded to see through this veil, too. A ‘fool’ is also another name used to describe the jesters due to their silly behavior to keep people entertained. A joker as her lover was probably the last thing the queen anticipated – hence the ‘foolproof’ vest.
