Taylor Swift – Anti-Hero | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

Taylor Swift, today, played a little game and dropped some insights into a track from her upcoming album ‘Midnights.’ She let fate decide what song she is going to reveal and landed on track #3. Tadaa! Track three on the 2022 album is called “Anti-Hero,” and it might not be what you think it is.

In an Instagram video, Taylor Swift went into a bit of detail about what “Anti-Hero” is about;

“Track 3, ‘Anti-Hero’ is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written. I really don’t think I’ve dealt this far into my insecurities in this detail before. I struggle a lot with the idea that my life has become unmanageable sized and, not to sound too dark, I struggle with the idea of not feeling like a person. *imitates fake crying* Don’t feel bad for me. You don’t need to. This song is a real guided tour throughout all the things I tend to hate about myself. We all hate things about ourselves. It’s all of those aspects of the things we dislike and like about ourselves that we have to come to terms with if we are going to, like, be this person. Yeah, I like ‘Anti-Hero’ alot because I think it’s honest.”

This is a lot of raw emotions already. The song will probably hit us in our deepest buried flaws. But facing these demons is the only way to overcome them.

Taylor Swift “Anti-Hero” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

When a few dozen things in life don’t go your way, you tend to take a step back and wonder ‘am I the problem?.’ The amount of criticism Taylor Swift has received throughout her career, over a dozen different things, maybe is getting to her now. Is she the worst person this world has seen? Certain media certainly paints such a picture.

In this song, we find Taylor Swift giving in to these criticisms. She thinks maybe she is the anti-hero–a path that she did not intend to take, but turned out to be, regardless.

Taylor Swift admits that all the online hate does get to her. Although the song has an upbeat tone, she clearly mentions that she has gone through depressive episodes thanks to this hate. There have been countless nights where she lay awake pondering the question if she is actually a monster.

Granted, nobody really sees their own issues. Nobody really takes time to look at them. Everyone always looks at others. Taylor is no different. She says that she could comfortably stare at the midday Sun (which is nearly impossible, this is only a metaphor) than look at herself in the mirror. She might not be alone in this confession. When was the last time you reflected on your habits and traits?

It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero

Taylor Swift wonders if her fans see her in the same light. She has one of the most die-hard fan bases the entertainment industry has ever seen. If these criticisms do actually carry weight, are Swifties really supporting her? How long will they keep supporting her?

Taylor’s fears don’t end up in reality. She even dreams of her in-laws of her kids coming after her. She wonders if one day she will have to pay with her life because of her money and fame. And to think that this fate would come within such a close circuit of relatives is a scary thought.
