“Lavender Haze” is the first track on Taylor Swift’s 2022 album ‘Midnights.’ The song ushers us into the album as well as into an era of an ignorantly blissful romantic life of Taylor. Announcing the song, Taylor Swift spoke about the inspiration behind the track;
“I happened upon the phrase ‘Lavender Haze’ when I was watching ‘Mad Men.’ And I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool and it turns out that it’s a common phrase used in the 50s where they would just describe being in love.”
She continued “Like if you were in a lavender haze it meant that you were in that all-encompassing love glow. And I thought that was really beautiful. I guess theoretically when you are in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you off of that cloud.”
Taylor Swift explained how the inspiration for the song was drawn from her own personal life; “My relationship for six years, we’ve had dodged weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. So, this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”
‘Midnights‘ is the tenth studio album by Taylor Swift following her ‘evermore‘ and ‘folklore‘ album releases in 2020. Announcing the album, Taylor Swift said “This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.” The album was released on October 21, 2022.

After the “Snow On The Beach” track, which describes a too-good-to-be-true relationship unfolding, “Lavender Haze” enters into the honeymoon phase of the relationship.
Everything’s a blur and mystic and that hazy lavender color is washing over both of them. Everything is working just right–the phase before they really dig into their insecurities.
What’s even better is when your partner has got your back. Being a celebrity of the caliber of Taylor Swift, tabloids throw thanksgiving dinners on her behalf every weekend. If she takes one step out in the streets, it ends up in some tabloid on the Internet. How good would it feel when your partner understands this and holds your hand through it all.
In the second verse, Taylor Swift says how everyone wants her to be a wife to whoever she is dating at the moment. Every breakup she has gets pinned on her scoreboard. She is human, too. Everyone dates and has breakups. But Taylor’s fame works against her when it comes to her personal life. It is sad to hear Taylor say that most people want a one-night stand or a wife out of her.
This may have been a valid argument in the 1950s when women were very restricted in what they could do with their lives. Today, this is not the case at all. But some online forums and tabloids still have this monolithic mentality. It takes special effort on both Taylor’s side and her partner’s side to avoid all this noise.
Lavender haze is where Taylor wants to stay. The stage before this and after this seem incomparable to the serenity and bliss in the lavender haze.
