One of the singles from ‘Starboy’ album, “Party Monster” was quite a special track considering the very lavish and explicit lyrics of it. We did a review of the lyrics on the track for the same reasons. The song gained a lot of attention and created the buzz needed for the album’s popularity. ‘Starboy’ album is different from The Weeknd’s previous works, as he empties his mind on the lyrical canvas in it’s rawest form. “Party Monster” is undoubtedly about the party lifestyle infused with drugs and booze and women for money. So the music video captures an entire sequence of lucid-dream sort of scenario throughout the video. The video was directed by BRTHR.

Controversy has sprung over the “Party Monster” lyric ‘Like Selena, ass shaped like Selena‘ as dating rumors have surfaced between The Weeknd and Selena Gomez when they were spotted making out. So, is the lyric about Selena Gomez? After much Internet debate the fans have concluded that the lyric is infact not about Selena Gomez, but actually about who it was originally believed to be for Selena Quintanilla.
The signature cross that appeared in “Starboy” appears in “Party Monster” as well. Also, the black panther that took a ride with The Weeknd in “Starboy” makes an appearance in this music video too.
