Camila Cabello comes back to promoting her upcoming sophomore studio album with a brand new single titled “Cry For Me.” The emotional single is said to be one of Camila’s personal favourites on the album.
In a Tweet announcing the song, Camila Cabello explained what this song means to her; “I think everyone has felt this at one point or another when your ex moves on faster than you and of course you want them to be happy but just…not so fast…”
In an Instagram post, following the release of the song, Camila revealed that the song was inspired by her earliest works; “I wrote a song back when I was 16 called I’m pissed off you’re happy, about a situation where someone and I broke up and sooner than I expected, they moved on, they were having fun and happy and dating and I was just like…. what the hell, that didn’t take very long 🤬🤬🤬🤬 I took that idea and put it into this song, the feeling nobody likes to admit about feeling wild with jealousy. I wrote this one a few months ago and it’s been one of my favorites for a while. now get your mascara and scream and cry and rage and rip your photos and delete whoever you’re thinking of’s texts to this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💋😈😈😈😈😈.”

In the lyrics to the song, we hear Camila Cabello lamenting over her ex moving on quite fast after their breakup. Social convention dictates that the stronger their relationship was, the harder and longer it would take to move on after a breakup. Hence, if one person jumps on to a relationship within a week, it goes on to say that they were not too much attached by the strings of a relationship.
Camila Cabello sees her ex walking down the street, looking happy. It is not as if Camila wants her ex to be miserable because they are not together. But she expects him to cry for her and say he would die for her to have her back. But of course, this is just a sweet daydream she has.
In the second verse, we realize that the ex is already with someone new and this is making Camila extremely jealous and hurt. Camila gets quite crafty with her lyrics to tell how this new girlfriend is making him forget about her; “See her lips erasing me…” Camila doubts that no one will ever love her as he did. But she has no option but to move on.
