Taylor Swift Performs a Medley of Her Greatest Hits on AMAs 2019

Let’s put aside the fact that Taylor Swift is now the most decorated American Music Awards honorees of the ceremony’s history, passing Michael Jackson. Let’s also ignore, for now, that Taylor Swift was named the ‘Artist of the Decade’ at the AMAs 2019 last night. This article is dedicated to Taylor Swift’s amazing medley of her biggest hits performed live to perfection.

Taylor Swift won 6 AMAs last night including ‘Favourite Music Video’ for “You Need to Calm Down,” ‘Favourite Pop/Rock Album’ award for ‘Lover’ album, ‘Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist,’ ‘Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist,’ the coveted ‘Artist of the Year’ award and the even more coveted ‘Artist of the Decade.’ With these 6 wins, Taylor Swift’s total AMA win count goes up to 29, making her the highest honoured artist at American Music Awards history. This honour was previously held by King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with 24 awards.

Taylor Swift was on open war with her previous record label, Big Machine Records, owned by Scooter Braun now. The dispute was with Taylor Swift claiming that Big Machine Records, who owns Taylor’s album catalogue from ‘Taylor Swift’ to ‘Reputation,’ was not allowing Taylor to perform the songs at the 2019 American Music Awards. She really did want to perform a medley of her greatest hits in commemoration of 15 years of music, as a special ‘thank you’ to her fans. The feud got quite ugly and it turned into a disaster as well. Some Swifties took it quite too far that they threated Scooter Braun, as well. The dispute faded over the past week and we got a confirmation that Taylor was finally ‘okay’ to perform her own songs.

So we now come to the Sunday of November 25th 2019. Despite all the back-and-forth about if Taylor would get to perform her old songs, we did see Taylor Swift bringing the roof down, as usual. She went on to perform her hits from her entire career, such as “The Man,” “Love Story,” “I Knew You Were Trouble,” “Blank Space,” “Shake It Off” and “Lover.” Watch the full performance and the accepting of the ‘Artist of the Decade’ award at AMAs 2019 below.

To everyone’s surprise, Taylor Swift brought down her tour-mate Camila Cabello and her avid fan Halsey on stage as well. The trio performed “Shake It Off” single.

Accepting the award, Taylor Swift thanked her fans for being with her for over a decade. She thanked her backup dancers including Camila Cabello and Halsey. Taylor Swift received the ‘Artist of the Decade’ award from the hands of the music icon Carole King, whom Taylor mentioned as an artist her parents, her brother and herself grew up listening to. “When I fell in love with music, it was right around the time I realized that how marvellous it was that an artist could transcend so many different phases and changes in people’s lives,” said Taylor Swift looking directly at Carole King. “So you taught me that that’s a possibility,” added Taylor.

“All any of us want is to create something that will last,” she added. “All that matters to me is the memories I’ve had with you guys over the years.”
