“Shots Fired” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

Throughout the song, Megan Thee Stallion takes some massive battle axes to Tory Lanez and the shooting incident that transpired. She seems to be even madder at Tory Lanez for denying the accusations. This is the first line on the track; “Imagine ni**** lyin’ ’bout shootin’ a real bi***.”

Megan Thee Stallion also recalls the incident where she went on Instagram Live on July 27th, on Tory Lanez’s birthday, and talked about the injuries she suffered on her feet. As a result Tory Lanez possibly had one of the worst birthdays ever, with fans and haters equally demanding justice for Megan and deportation of Tory Lanez.

Megan Thee Stallion also seems to regret the fact that she did not report Tory Lanez when the police arrived at the shooting incident right after. Tory Lanez used this argument in his album that Megan is lying about the shooting, manifesting stories that she did not tell the police right after the shooting. However, Megan later claimed that she did not want to escalate a situation between the police and Tory Lanez, such as a shootout, had she reported that the rapper was carrying a firearm.

Megan Thee Stallion addresses the fallout with her friend Kelsey Nicole, who was present in the vehicle during the shooting incident. However, she revealed very little about the incident which led people to believe that Tory Lanez paid her money to keep her mouth shut. Megan seems to confirm that rumor here.

Megan Thee Stallion spares no lyrics to ridicule Tory Lanez for what he did and lying about it later on. She addresses a claim made by Tory Lanez on “Money Over Fallouts” where he asks how did a bullet not hit any bones or tendons if she was hit with a bullet. Megan responds by saying that he shot with a .22 caliber bullet which is quite small that the bullet could miss bones and tendons. She does not stop here and piles on saying that the tiny .22 handgun is perfectly matching for a weak and tiny person like Tory Lanez.

Megan also brings in the topic of the killing of Breonna Taylor, a black woman who was shot in her Louisville home by US police in March 2020. However, the two officers involved in the home invasion have not been charged for this.

“Shots Fired” goes into yet another verse just throwing shot after another at Tory Lanez for his weak behavior, from the shooting and since.
