Niall Horan Premiers Emotional “Too Much To Ask” Video (Lyrics Review)

Niall Horan has released an emotional music video to his song “Too Much To Ask” from his debut solo album ‘Flicker’ which is expected to drop soon. The song finds Niall Horan in a post breakup situation lamenting over the fact that he misses her so much. He is hoping she would feel the same and decide to get back together with him. The music video has some classic heartbreak themed shots like ‘sitting alone on the bed in dimmed lights,’ ‘slow motion face shots,’ ‘watching into the horizon from a rooftop in the city’ and so on.

“Too Much To Ask” has been written by Niall Horan and Jamie Scott and produced by Greg Kurstin.

The lyrics to the song are quite simple and straightforward, but we will take a look at some noticeable lyrics.

Verse 1

Waiting here for someone
Only yesterday we were on the run
You smile back at me and your face lit up the sun
Now I’m waiting here for someone

The breakup has taken Niall Horan by surprise. He says that it feels like yesterday that they were falling in love all over again and they enjoyed each other’s company. Then, everything looked bright, as the sunlight hit her face. But today, everything looks gloomy-a perfect example is his room in the music video.

Pre-chorus

And oh, love, do you feel this rough?
Why’s it only you I’m thinking of

They have had the breakup and we can see how much Niall is hurting. He calls these feelings a ‘rough’ because it tears him up to realize that she is gone. And he can’t stop thinking about her.

Chorus

My shadow’s dancing
Without you for the first time
My heart is hoping
You’ll walk right in tonight
Tell me there are things that you regret
‘Cause if I’m being honest I ain’t over you yet
It’s all I’m asking
Is it too much to ask?
Is it too much to ask?

Chorus of “Too Much To Ask” is the catchiest part of the song.

Niall Horan says what used to be two shadows doing all the fun activities together is now a solo shadow. Some speculate this line speaks about the separation from 1D as well.

Niall keeps on saying that he is not over her yet, and he wants to know why. He wants to know what she regretted about their relationship.

He is hoping that she would just walk into his life every night. But that seems like a very far fetched dream.

Verse 2

Someone’s moving outside
The lights come on and down the drive
I forget you’re not here when I close my eyes
Do you still think of me sometimes?

Niall Horan is on edge. He cannot get some sleep everytime he sees a vehicle light falling on his window. His conscious runs wild thinking she has returned-but it is not so.

At least for him to get some closure, he asks her if she even thinks about him at all now?

“Too Much To Ask” is a very relatable song to most of us. We do not know if the inspiration for the song has been drawn from personal experience of the artist. But whichever the case, he makes the song very personal and delivers an emotional act.
