Every year brings joy and sorrow, love and heartbreak and everything else in between. Ariana Grande made a fortune off of her series of breakups in latter 2018 and early 2019 with the album ‘Thank U, Next.’ It just might be time for Miley Cyrus to commence a season of mourning as we draw 2019 to a close.
Miley Cyrus released a brand new single “Slide Away” from her upcoming EP ‘She Is Here,’ the second instalment of her tri-part extended play series. Miley released the first EP ‘She Is Coming’ released in May 2019. The final part of the trilogy will be titled ‘She Is Everything,’ all three of which will set the tone for Miley’s upcoming seventh studio album ‘She Is Miley Cyrus.’
Returning from 2019 tracks such as “Mother’s Daughter,” “Cattitude” and “Party Up The Street,” this brand new single “Slide Away” is a total change of pace. Miley seems to be singing of heartbreak and how she is trying to move on from it. This song comes soon after her announcement of the split with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. The news surfaced after Miley Cyrus was spotted kissing Kaitlyn Carter.

The song title plays a twist on the popular phrase ‘slide-in’ which refers to making contact with someone. By ‘sliding away,’ Miley Cyrus is hinting of moving on from someone.
The first verse on the song describes the beginning and the end of the relationship. What turned out as a feeling of paradise where she was paralyzed with love, has turned into a place of desolation and tragedy. And she is making up her mind to let everything go.
In the pre-chorus lyrics, Miley admits that this breakup hit her the hardest. She confesses that she might not need drugs or alcohol to get through this rough patch in her life because she has the spirit of a warrior. ‘Pills’ also could indicate thoughts on suicide.
In the second pre-chorus and outro, Miley sings that everything has changed since they had got to know each other almost a decade ago. He says things have changed and Miley agrees, commenting that they are not 17-years-old anymore. It is also noteworthy that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth first started an affair after meeting on the set of filming ‘The Last Song’ when Miley was 17-years-old.
