Megan Thee Stallion & Normani – Diamonds (Birds of Prey OST) | Lyrics Review and Song Meaning

Two female powerhouses in the modern rap and hip hop game join forces for an equally powerful female superhero movie. American rapper Megan Thee Stallion and singer Normani link up in the new single “Diamonds” from the upcoming movie ‘Birds Of Prey.’ Let us review the lyrics and meaning behind this song.

Birds Of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)‘ is an American superhero movie based on the character of Harley Quinn, the supervillain counterpart of The Joker from the DC Batman series. This movie is a followup to DC’s 2016 movie ‘Suicide Squad’ which also focused a lot on Harley Quinn. The famed actress Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in ‘Suicide Squad’ will also depict the role in ‘Birds Of Prey.’ The movie is set to screen on February 7, 2020.

“Diamonds” is the lead single off the ‘Birds Of Prey’ movie soundtrack. Other notable artists on the album are Lauren Jauregui, Halsey, Summer Walker, and Doja Cat. This single bases on the popular statement that “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.”

The lyrics to this song boast about their power by both Megan Thee Stallion and Normani. They boast about shopping at Cartier and Tiffany’s for their jewellery. These are two of the most high-end jewellers in the world.

In the first rap verse by Megan Thee Stallion, she invents a new word. The entire movie is based on the heroics of Harley Quinn. So it is unfitting to call her a “hero.” Megan Thee Stallion calls Quinn and herself as “she-roes.” Why not!

In the second verse, Megan tries to relate to the character of Harley Quinn a bit more. She boasts that she is well versed with handling a gun. But both Megan and Normani are seen wielding massive sledgehammers–an iconic part of the character of Harley Quinn.

Megan Thee Stallion also states that Harley, Normani and herself are not the typical lady-like figures the society wants them to be. They are rule breakers and leaders. They manifest their own destiny. So the most lady-like they will be is to “beat your a*s on ladies night.”

The music video for “Diamonds” also features Margot Robbie dressed as her character of Harley Quinn. She portrays a perfect Harley Quinn with her gorgeous looks, crazy persona and vivid actions.
