Khalid might be on to his new album as he premiered a brand new song, titled “New Normal,” today at the launch site of the Unity 22 spacecraft. As Sir Richard Branson headed Virgin Galatic takes a new step towards making space more accessible to everyone and ushering a new era for commercial space tours, Khalid sings about moving on from heartbreak and adjusting to a life without their significant other.
Virgin Galatic launched its first commercial spacecraft into the outer orbit on July 11, 2021, with four passengers on board their VSS Unity 22 spacecraft. Virgin Group’s founder, Sir Richard Branson, was one of the passengers and became the first passenger to visit outer space. After a successful space tour, the four brand new astronauts were welcomed back to Earth by a performance by Khalid at Spaceport America, New Mexico.
In an interview, after his performance, Khalid wished Virgin Galactic on the successful mission and said that he is both excited and nervous to take a trip to space himself in the future. He also added “honestly, it’s a dream to even be here. So thankful, and like you (interviewer) said, look how far we’ve come as humanity (referencing song lyrics).”
Khalid also went on to perform two of his hit songs “Better” and “Talk” during the live performance.

Khalid “New Normal” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review
In the song, Khalid sings about a third person who has gone through a lot in recent times. Irrespective of who the song is aimed at, we can all relate to this song, coming out of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and most of 2021 as well. We lost loved ones and we had to lock ourselves indoors. With vaccines rolling out worldwide, humanity is seeing the light at the end of this dark tunnel. Earth is moving on to a new normal.
Khalid seems to sing about a person who has lost a loved one. Maybe they had to separate from each other due to uncontrollable circumstances. Maybe the singer is the ex-boyfriend of the person he is singing about. Khalid tries to console this person. But he knows that ‘hope’ is a double-edged sword.
But I, summer hazards end somеtimes
Although I can’t promise you much
You’ll be finе, you’ll be fine
Khalid knows what it feels like to be drowning in your own thoughts. That crushing feeling in your head as if the whole world is spinning against you. Nothing seems to be within your control.
Khalid tries to console this person, and maybe himself as well, by singing that everything is changing and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. What you can do, though, is just dance and let your worries burn away.
Everything is changing, yeah Just dance, yeah…
This is yet another beautiful song by Khalid and one that almost all of us can relate to at this time. Let us hear what you think about this song in the comments below.
The song is expected to release on July 21, 2021.
