Rihanna – Lift Me Up | Lyrics Meaning Revealed

It took a tribute to the late great Chadwick Boseman for Rihanna to come out of her musical hiatus. The singer teased a snippet of her newest song “Lift Me Up” from the upcoming movie ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’

“Lift Me Up” is Rihanna’s first solo track in six years, after her 2016 album ‘Anti,’ and has been heavily involved in her billion-dollar fashion empire Fenty since, and becoming a mother in May 2022.

Rihanna wrote the song herself along with fellow artist Tems and the latter spoke about the inspiration and the story behind the song; “I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Chadwick Boseman, who played the marvel character of Black Panther in its franchise, passed away from colon cancer in 2020 at the age of 43.

Rihanna “Lift Me Up” Lyrics Meaning and Song Review

The moody song is a cry of a plea for someone special in your life to stick around. But, unfortunate circumstances take them away from each other, either temporarily or permanently.

The song is a direct ode to the late great actor Chadwick Boseman. He played the lead role in the Black Panther movie franchise and touched a lot of people within and outside of Hollywood. Naturally, his passing came as a shock (as he had been hiding his illness for the longest time) and devastation for colleagues and fans all around the world.

“Lift Me Up” captures these gloomy memories perfectly, as Rihanna attempts to help all of us recover from this loss.

When you lose someone you love, you cannot help but feel that they are watching you from above. One cannot help but feel they are protecting you somehow.

Chadwick Boseman played the lead protagonist role of the Black Panther in the movie series named after the same. The character of Black Panther is a hero and the protector of the African nation of Wakanda. So, he was hailed as a savior when he was alive and he carried this legacy to his afterlife.
