One of the finest battle rap gurus of our generation has allegedly passed away this morning on March 25, 2019. Although no official sources have confirmed the death of Akeem Mickens AKA Tech 9, AllNewHipHop News reports the Philadelphia based rapper has passed away. No cause of death has been pronounced yet.
Tech 9 fans and battle rap fans reacted to the death on this morning all over social media. Even celebrities such as Lloyd Banks, Lupe Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, Denzel Curry, Cassidy and more took to social media to extend their condolences to Tech 9’s family.
In the midst of these condolences, there was a mass confusion with Tech N9ne rapper who bears a similar name to Tech 9. Twitter started trending with the hashtag #TechN9ne mourning his death.
However, Tech N9ne himself took to Twitter to share his message of condolences with the passing of Tech 9. “Been battling for years,” added Tech N9ne after extending his condolences. “I’ve observed many a battle of his. Condolences to the family.”
UPDATE: Tech 9 Death Confirmed
Battle rapper Buttah From The Block, who is friends with Tech 9 released a statement to XXLM confirming the death rumours;
“Sadly it’s true. We lost a Philadelphia and battle rap legend and pioneer. Unfortunately we haven’t fully figured the cause of death. We are praying that it was natural causes. He had no signs of harm done to his body.”
Tech 9 was one of the most formidable names in battle rap. He made a name for himself in Ultimate Rap League (URL) and has had a fair share of brutal and creative lyrical throwdowns with some of the most famous names in the industry. He then shifted to battle rap commentary on ‘Champion’ in which he earned a unique status as a pro. His colourful imagery, gritty lyricism and elite personality will surely be missed.
Fans have started to mourn their cultural icon in the battle rap arena.
Tech 9 was 48-years-old at the time of passing.
