“Lover of Mine” is the ninth track on 5 Second of Summer’s 2020 album ‘CALM.’ The song is a beautiful dedication to the singer’s lover or their lovers.
5SOS’s fourth studio album ‘CALM’ definitely goes against its title. Although the album title is an acronym of the band member’s names: Calum, Ashton, Luke, & Michael, this album produced some impressive hits globally. Singles such as “Easier,” “Teeth,” “No Shame,” and “Wildflower” really showcased the musical maturity of the group.
Luke Hemmings spoke about the song via Apple Music release; “I was trying to go for a Jeff Buckley vibe on this. I actually wrote this with my girlfriend and then I took it into the studio. We finished it there with everyone else.”

“Lover of Mine” Lyrics Meaning & Song Review
Verse 1
In the first verse of the song, Luke tells his girlfriend not to worry if they take time to figure things out. The butterflies at the initial stages of a relationship are not the total and accurate picture. With time and experience, there will be much more to figure out and work on. Their heads will become a kaleidoscope of doubts and issues. But stay strong!
Pre-chorus
In these lyrics, Luke and Calum join vocals to emphasize that relationships are not as easy. There is much work to be done by both parties. There will be good and warm times (red) and there will be dull and heartaches (blue) in every relationship. It will take all their strength to overcome all these hurdles.
Chorus
In the hook, Luke reveals that he will never give up this love. He knows that this love is the only right thing he has done in his life of continuous mistakes.
Verse 2
In the second verse of “Lover of Mine,” 5SOS strangely sings that she is “colorblind.” This could be a reference to the previous verse in which he sang that he sees the “red and blue” of her. Maybe, it is a good thing to be colorblind. Then you don’t notice a difference between the good times and the bad times. It would be better to be indifferent to every phase of life than to act accordingly to different ups and downs of life!
